I am excited to spend this year learning, growing, and laughing with Pawling 9th graders as we grow in skills and maturity throughout the year. I come to Pawling from Massachusetts, where my accomplishments included a Shakespearean Archery Contest, winning 2nd Best Dancer at Prom, telling one too many stories about India, and convincing the senior class to replace their inappropriate language with the word "purple." I hope to have even more outlandish adventures with the 9th graders of Pawling.
English Language Arts has "Arts" in its name for a reason! In this class, we will study and practice the arts of reading, writing, persuasion, critical thinking, and self-reflection. Those are not easy skills, but they are worthy ones, and we will devote our entire year to their mastery. The essential question of our year is "What does it take to be a hero?" Our students will look at great heroes in literature, both pure and flawed, and construct their own ideas of what it means to be a hero in our world today.
¡Hola estudiantes y padres!
